Currently, the oncology field is different from the early days of cancer treatment, with many more advanced treatment options, improved pain control, and reduced side effects of treatment. Many people make the transition from cancer patient to cancer survivor that we are seeing in the world today. In short, often there is hope of recovery, or of living with the disease. Oncology nurses play an important role throughout the continuum of cancer care.
