Currently, the oncology field is different from the early days of cancer treatment, with many more advanced treatment options, improved pain control, and reduced side effects of treatment. Many people make the transition from cancer patient to cancer survivor that we are seeing in the world today. In short, often there is hope of recovery, or of living with the disease. Oncology nurses play an important role throughout the continuum of cancer care.

Clinical nurse specialists (CNS) are advanced practice registered nurses (APRNs) who serve as experts in evidence-based nursing practice in one of several specialized areas. We will apply their advanced knowledge of disease processes in clinical disease evaluation, diagnosis, and treatment, but their main role is to reach beyond patient care. The primary goal of clinical nurse specialists is to provide safe, qualified and cost-effective specialty care while working from within to improve the health care system.

Public health nurses are the largest professional segment of the public health work and are engaged in public health prevention, education, advocacy, activism, evaluation, and evaluation. We play a vital role in disease prevention and help promote the health and safety of the community. Public health nursing offers a variety of opportunities for students who are already interested in a nursing program or who are already a practicing nurse to make significant changes to public health. While most nurses care for one patient at a time, all populations are cared for by public health nurses.

The ability to work with entire communities allows nurses in public health to help educate the population about health issues and improve their health and safety and promote access to care.

Evidence-based nursing practice is a systematic, problem-solving approach to clinical practice that combines the best evidence from well-designed trials, principles, and desires of patients, and experience of the clinician in making decisions about the care of the patient. There are a variety of rating systems and evidence hierarchies that determine the strength or quality of evidence generated from the study or report.

It is important for every clinician to be knowledgeable about evidence-based practice and evidence levels as clinicians need to be confident about how much emphasis they should place on a particular study, report, practice alert, or clinical practice guideline when making decisions about the care of a patient.
